December Currently

So, I'm sure December snuck up on everyone, right? And to think that one of the three full weeks in December is already in the books. Blows my mind.

Anyway, needless to say, Farley's Currently also snuck up on me and since we are all so busy this time of year I am just now getting on board. Here we go!

Oh my goodness! The only channel that exists in my home this time of year is The Hallmark Channel.  All day, every day.  Who's with me?

Now, I love my Christmas tree but not because it's this big, beautiful, gorgeous, professionally decorated tree.  I love it because there is nothing more soothing than sitting in the living room by the glow of the white lights, relaxing, watching a movie, and relaxing some more. I am truly so sad when it's time for the tree to come down.

I sat in the quiet morning hours today just thinking about how fortunate my family is in so many ways.  Are we perfect? Absolutely not! Do we have everything that we want all the time? No way! But do we have what we need that is important? Absolutely! Sometimes I just need to remind myself of this when things get a little crazy or life is gets overly stressful. There is so much to be thankful for.

SNOW! I know, I know. You will think I am crazy but there is nothing as magical as a white Christmas.  I can do without all the dirty slop on the sides of the roads but the beautiful flakes falling from the sky creating a picturesque landscape just takes my breath away.

A 3-day weekend.  No joke. I just need a day to catch up on housework, laundry, honey-dos, and such.  This weekend went by in the blink of an eye and none of these things are done...

Real or Faux

We do an artificial tree for many reasons.  The first few years we were married we did have a real tree but the first year of having a toddler changed all that! I was just so nervous about her crawling on dried out needles. Some friends of ours actually had a little critter jump out of their tree after they had it in their house. That sealed the deal, really. We've had artificial ever since.  In hindsight, it truly has been a blessing because now I can have my tree up longer to enjoy {for reasons already listed above} without the worry of a dried out tree.  Oh, also because my husband is a volunteer fireman and not having to worry about the fire hazard keeps him happy too:)

I'm keeping it short and sweet! Until next time!

Thanksgiving 'Thankful Pumpkins'

I know Thanksgiving is over but here is a quick little project you can do with your littles next year.

I was surfing the Internet the weekend before Thanksgiving looking for a quick and easy activity that I could do within about a 40 minute period with 25 kiddos.  I came across this post from Annie Moffat from The Moffat Girls that gave me the perfect project.

Since I knew I was going to be short on time and I also wanted to read a Thanksgiving read-aloud, I did a little prep work ahead of time.  I trimmed the strips, pre-punched the holes, had the green strips cut, and the year written on a leaf.

I know that sounds like a lot of work that second graders could certainly handle on their own, however, time was of the essence that day!

I had the students cut their strips apart first.  This gave me an opportunity to attach one brad and give them the second brad to attach when they were through.

The writing and assembly of all 24 pumpkins took right at 30 minutes. This gave me 10 minutes at the beginning of class to read them a book as well.  It was perfect! They LOVED how they turned out.  They could not visualize how this creation was going to be a pumpkin. They were amazed at how easy it was. These were also perfect because they could slide the strips flat again so it fit perfectly into their folders to bring home without getting bent.  So many of them declared that this pumpkin would be their table centerpiece on Thanksgiving.  Oh my goodness. Love.

I couldn't help but get a little smile on my face and on my heart that someone was thankful for teachers:)

I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day together to think about all that good in your life and are enjoying everything that this Christmas season has to offer!
